Epoxy Resin: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
Epoxy resin is a popular material for making products that are strong and durable. There are many pros of using epoxy resin, but there are also cons to take into consideration before you make your decision. Project Concrete will help you make this decision.
Epoxy Resin is very durable and strong, making it a great choice for items that need to be able to take some wear and tear. It also has excellent chemical resistance (meaning it can prevent chemicals from seeping into the item), which makes epoxy resin one of the best materials when you want something like an outdoor storage box or workbench. Epoxy resins come in several different forms: liquid, two-part systems, solvent-free adhesives/sealants…
Another pro of using epoxy resin is that it works great as a protective coating or finish. This makes epoxy resin perfect for items like garage floors, concrete countertops and tables, etc.
One more thing worth mentioning about epoxy resins is their high viscosity level – several manufacturers make products with lower levels in order to allow them move easier through injection molds…
There are many other pros of using epoxies but if your project requires high-temperature resistance (for example if you are using it as part of machinery) then epoxide might not be right for this application because its heat tolerance is limited at best. In addition, while epoxies do have excellent chemical resistance, they are not generally resistant to solvents.
Also, epoxy resins are not very flexible and do tend to be brittle, which might make them more likely to crack or break.
However, despite the potential cons of epoxy resin, we think it is one of our most versatile materials and highly recommend that you consider using it for your next project if durability and chemical resistance are important factors in what you need.
